Paying for Therapy: A Guide to Options

If you’ve ever thought about getting mental health support, chances are cost has crossed your mind.

Unlike many physical health services, therapy is not covered under universal healthcare. This creates a real barrier for many people trying to access the support they need.

The reality is quality care for your mind can be expensive. And yet, your mental health impacts everything, including your physical health. (If you’ve ever come across When the Body Says No by Gabor Maté, you’ll know.)

Adding another expense can feel overwhelming. It can bring up questions like: Is this worth it? Can I justify this? What if I start and can’t continue?

These are valid concerns, AND you can’t put a price on improving your mental health when you are in a tough spot.

What Does It Cost?

My sessions are $130 per hour, which includes the use of high-quality art materials and a thoughtfully prepared space for you to create, reflect, and connect.

Options That May Help

There are a few different ways people are able to access support:

  • Extended Health Benefits
Many plans cover counselling services. Look for designations like ACCTRTC, or psychotherapist in your coverage. You may have full or partial coverage for a certain number of sessions.

  • Funding & Grants
Some clients access therapy through autism funding, school supports, or community-based grants.

  • Sliding Scale Rates
I don’t want cost to be a barrier to care. I offer reduced rates based on income and life circumstances; feel free to reach out to learn more about current availability.

Flexible Ways to Engage in Therapy

Therapy can be:

  • Short-term or goal-focused therapy can be helpful if you’re working through a specific challenge

  • Biweekly or monthly sessions can still create impact while being more financially manageable

You Deserve Support

If finances have been holding you back, I see that. And I’m always open to having a conversation about what might be possible for you.

I would genuinely love to find an option that works.
